Description
This hand-dyed tenugui depicts cheerful monkeys enjoying a relaxing soak in an open-air hot spring. Some quietly unwind in the steaming water, while others share Japanese sake, creating a lighthearted scene that is sure to bring a smile.
Japan has long been known for its hot spring culture, and many local legends tell of wild animals discovering hot springs and bathing in their warm waters to soothe their injuries. The most famous example today is the snow monkeys of Jigokudani in Nagano, where Japanese macaques can still be seen relaxing in natural hot springs during the winter.
Carefully hand-dyed using traditional techniques, this charming tenugui captures the warmth, humor, and comfort of a Japanese hot spring. Whether displayed as wall art, used as a lightweight cotton towel, or given as a unique gift, it adds a cheerful touch inspired by one of Japan's most beloved traditions.
