Description
Camellias ('Tsubaki (椿)') are evergreen trees native to Japan, and their vibrant red flowers that bloom in early spring have long been cherished as symbols of the end of harsh winter cold. Additionally, camellias have been believed to possess the power to ward off evil spirits since ancient times, making them particularly sacred among evergreen trees and an essential part of ancient rituals. During the Edo period, they became increasingly popular for their aesthetic appeal and started being used frequently as patterns in kimono designs.
