Description
Inspired by shogi, Japan's traditional strategy board game, this hand-dyed tenugui features beautifully arranged shogi pieces. Often described as the Japanese counterpart to chess, shogi has been enjoyed by people of all ages for centuries.
Believed to date back to the Heian period (794–1185), shogi remains deeply rooted in Japanese culture. Unlike chess, captured pieces can return to the board under a player's control, creating a uniquely dynamic game of strategy and creativity.
Carefully hand-dyed using traditional techniques, this tenugui celebrates the timeless appeal of shogi. Whether displayed as wall art, used as a lightweight cotton towel, or given as a thoughtful gift, it offers a distinctive glimpse into one of Japan's most cherished traditions.
By simply inserting this rod into the top and bottom of a tenugui, you can easily create a tapestry.
