What Makes Our Tenugui Special
Our tenugui are carefully handcrafted by skilled artisans using traditional techniques. They're made to be both beautiful and practical, suitable for all kinds of uses in everyday life.
1. 100% Cotton — Soft and Gentle on the Skin
We use a specially woven fabric made from high-quality cotton, the same kind used for summer kimono (yukata). The more you use it, the softer and more comfortable it becomes.
2. Dyed with the Traditional 'Chusen' Technique
Each tenugui is dyed using chusen, a traditional method where the dye seeps deep into the fabric, creating reversible designs with no front or back. Over time, the colors gently fade, adding character and warmth.
3. Wide Variety of Patterns
Our tenugui feature a rich variety of patterns that reflect the beauty of Japanese culture and the changing seasons.
From flowers, birds, and animals to iconic themes like ukiyo-e prints, sumo, and traditional celebrations such as Hinamatsuri (Girls’ Day), each design brings a sense of connection to Japanese heritage.
Whether you prefer classic motifs or seasonal scenes, you’re sure to find a pattern that speaks to you.
