Description

This hand-dyed tenugui features Karakusa (唐草), a traditional Japanese scrolling vine pattern characterized by gracefully curling stems and leaves.

Originally introduced to Japan through China and Korea along with Buddhist art, the Karakusa pattern has been cherished for centuries. Its endlessly flowing vines symbolize longevity, prosperity, and the continuation of good fortune. Traditionally regarded as an auspicious motif, it has been widely used on Japanese textiles, particularly furoshiki wrapping cloths, and remains a familiar design in everyday Japanese life.

Care instructions
  • Wash separately from other clothing by hand for the first few washes, as this is a hand-dyed product.

  • After washing, allow it to dry completely.
  • When fraying occurs, trim the loose horizontal threads, leaving about 5mm of the vertical fringe. Repeat this process several times until the fraying stops.
