Description

Bold and distinctive, this hand-dyed tenugui features an artistic arrangement of thick, twisted ropes. The simple yet powerful design highlights the beauty of texture, rhythm, and traditional craftsmanship.

In Japan, ropes made from natural plant fibers have long been used in everyday life as well as in cultural traditions. One familiar example is the shimenawa rope seen at shrines and around sacred trees or rocks, symbolizing respect for places believed to possess a special spiritual significance.

Carefully hand-dyed using traditional techniques, this tenugui transforms an everyday object into a striking graphic design. Whether displayed as wall art, used as a lightweight cotton towel, or incorporated into creative projects, it brings a bold touch of Japanese aesthetics to everyday life.

By simply inserting this rod into the top and bottom of a tenugui, you can easily create a tapestry.

Care instructions
  • Wash separately from other clothing by hand for the first few washes, as this is a hand-dyed product.
  • Avoid using bleach or detergent containing bleach.
  • After washing, allow it to dry completely.
  • When fraying occurs, trim the loose horizontal threads, leaving about 5mm of the vertical fringe. Repeat this process several times until the fraying stops.
