Description
This tenugui features a harmonious blend of chrysanthemums, symbolizing longevity and rejuvenation, and bamboo-leaf gentians, representing sincerity and elegance. The gentian motif is the family crest of Minamoto no Yoritomo (1147-1199), the founder of the Kamakura Shogunate. It is also prominently featured in traditional kabuki performances, such as Kanjinchō, as a symbol of the Genji clan.
Among the stencil patterns preserved at the historic our partner 'Todaya Shoten', there are many with intricate designs so delicate that they are impossible to recreate in modern times. This tenugui was also dyed using stencils created by master artisans with exceptional skill.
By simply inserting this rod into the top and bottom of a tenugui, you can easily create a tapestry.
