Description 'Kamawanu' pattern is formed by the combination of three characters: '鎌' (kama=sickle), '○'(wa=circle) and 'ぬ'(nu), read as "かまわぬ" (kamawanu), which translates to "I don't mind" or "I don't care." This design embodies the unyielding spirit of the passionate people of Edo (old Tokyo). It originates from a phrase that epitomizes the attitude of Edo townspeople, who were willing to selflessly help the vulnerable by saying, "I don't mind" or "I don't care" when confronted with challenges. The famous kabuki actor Ichikawa Danjuro VII (1791-1859) incorporated this phrase into his costumes, captivating the audience and making this pattern immensely popular during that era.
