Description

’Edo Kiriko’ is a traditional Japanese glass craft that originated in 1834 when Kyubei Kagaya, a glass merchant in Odenmacho, began engraving designs onto the surface of glass. The technique was further refined in the early Meiji period with the guidance of Englishman Hope-Taylor, who introduced advanced cutting techniques. Edo Kiriko involves intricate cuts on transparent glass, creating beautiful light reflections and unique brilliance. It is designated as a traditional craft of Tokyo and a nationally recognized traditional craft of Japan. Edo Kiriko is highly valued both domestically and internationally for its beauty and craftsmanship, making it a popular choice for gifts and decorative items.
