Description
When you look at the full moon, what kind of pattern do you see in your country? In Japan, people imagined that the pattern on the moon depicted a rabbit making mochi (rice cakes). In Europe, depending on the region, people see different things, such as a crab with large claws, an old woman reading a book, a man carrying firewood, or the profile of a woman. It’s interesting how perceptions vary so much from country to country and region to region.
Autumn is the season when the air is clear, and the moon appears most beautiful. On the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar, the Tsukimi (Mid-Autumn Festival) is held, where people admire the moon, offer autumn harvests, and express their gratitude for the season's bounty.
