Description

'Setsubun' is a traditional Japanese event that marks the division between winter and spring. Spring, revered as the start of a new year, is welcomed with open arms. On this day, the customary ritual of ""Mame-maki"" (bean throwing) is observed in homes and at shrines and temples. People scatter beans while chanting ""Fuku wa uchi! Oni wa soto!"" (Fortune in! Demons out!) to drive away disasters and illnesses, which are symbolically represented by demons and believed to be more prevalent at the turn of the seasons.

Our Setsubun ensemble, inspired by the prayer for overcoming the harsh winter and welcoming a bright spring, features a meticulously crafted actor's red demon mask, a masu box filled with beans, and a holly branch adorned with sardines, all delicately fashioned from washi paper. The entire set is compact enough to fit in the palm of your hand.

The demon mask is uniquely designed with a wire instead of the traditional elastic band, allowing it to be easily placed over miniature figures or other small objects for display.
