Dianthus, also known as 'Nadeshiko' in Japanese or casually referred to as 'fringed pink', has been considered a symbol of Japanese female beauty from the Kamakura period (1185-1333) up to the present day. Nadeshiko, with its delicate and strong stems, has come to represent the beauty of Japanese women who are both graceful and fragile yet possess inner strength. This is why Japanese women are often described as "Yamato Nadeshiko," encapsulating their inner resilience within their elegance and charm.
